PS #1
Jesse Bornstein Architecture provides feasibility studies and preliminary design services to Pluralistic School #1 (PS#1) a small urban independent elementary school in Santa Monica. Working in conjunction with the school’s building committee, firm principal Jesse Bornstein, AIA, LEED AP and senior associate David Peartree, AIA, LEED AP developed conceptual plans, formal 3D studies and comprehensive code analyses for the school’s campus expansion. The project involves the integration of new and existing buildings to add programmatic functions (including a new library, meeting room, lobby, circulation elements, administrative offices, service facilities and an expanded multi-purpose community center). In addition to integrating architectural and programmatic elements with those of the existing campus buildings, Jesse Bornstein Architecture’s design studies essentially pave the way toward a reinvigorated campus and transformation of the school’s playground into a well defined and unifying urban space. A sky bridge elevated above the play yard will perform double duty as an unobstructive connection between the existing campus functions and new uses, while providing an optimal mounting location for photovoltaic panels.
