Jesse Bornstein is the founder and principal architect of Jesse Bornstein Architecture. Establishing his firm in 1992, Jesse has designed and built many noteworthy single and multi-family residential projects throughout California. His experience extends to educational facilities and commercial interiors as well. Working closely with each of his clients from design conception through construction, Jesse shares his creative vision and his more than 30 years of experience in architecture, construction and design.
Over the years, Jesse has learned how to get work of exceptional quality built efficiently and cost effectively. He continues to apply his experience and passion to create singularly beautiful and affordable, lasting and life-affirming environments for each of his clients. His practice is founded on fully-integrated, cost-effective sustainable design principles, interest in experimentation and innovation, sensitive use of materials, well-considered architectural detailing, exploration of the formal and spatial language of design and aspiration toward a timeless architecture.
Jesse traces his passion for making things to a childhood immersed in the visual arts and formative summers spent working on construction job sites. His commitment to sensitive integration of architecture with the natural environment is rooted in his love of nature initially sparked by boyhood backpack trips in the Sierras and surfing along the California coast.
In 1980, while a student at UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design, Jesse began exploring the interface of design esthetics and performance-based computer simulations of active PV solar systems. With such projects as GreenOn19 Sustainable Townhomes, the first green-built solar powered multi-family project in Santa Monica, Jesse continues to lead the architecture field in fusing modern design and sustainable technologies.
Jesse holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from UC Berkeley and two Masters Degrees, in Architecture and Urban Design, from Harvard University.
When not working, Jesse enjoys exploring the natural beauty of California with his wife Shaun and their two daughters.
